A Philadelphia man has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross a road in New Castle Sunday night.

State police say the 33-year-old man ran from the median of the road across the southbound lanes of South DuPont Parkway north of First Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.

The man ran in front of a Lexus that was heading south. The driver swerved but the front of the car hit the man. He died at the scene.

The driver had minor injuries but didn't require immediate medical treatment.
