The Wolverines found themselves in a 20-7 hole six minutes into the second quarter after Couve LaFate scored on a two yard run. Earlier in the game the Pride scored on 99 and 74-yard marches down the field. Caravel alum-Chris Wickes scored the second touchdown for Widener.
Callahan responded with the most prolific performance in Wesley's history, as he quickly formed a connection with junior wide receiver Steve Koudossou, who tied the school record for catches in an entire game when his 11th catch of the first half was an acrobatic leap near the back pylon on a fade route which brought Wesley within 21-20 after missing the extra point.
Wesley finally grabbed their first lead of the game on the last play of the 3rd quarter, when Callahan rifled a bullet over the middle of the field, where a slanting Koudossou outleaped a linebacker to snag his third touchdown of the game, and a 26-21 lead going into the fourth quarter after a failed 2-point conversion.
After a game of short primarily 10-yards-or-shorter passes between the quarterback and receiver, Callahan executed a pump-and-go on Widener's defensive backs, and then tossed a perfect pass into the arms of a sprinting Koudossou on a 70-yard touchdown, which put the game away.
Koudossou ended with 17 catches for 266 yards (both school records) with four touchdowns. Callahan completed 37 passes (record) on his way to the 510 yards. Jeremiah Howe also caught 7 passes for 103 yards and Wesley's second touchdown.
Widener redshirt freshman Seth Klein had a solid debut overshadowed by Callahan, but did complete 26-of-35 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown, but was sacked eight times.
Wesley will face No. 16 Salisbury in the "Route 13 Rivalry" Saturday at 1pm at Miller Stadium.
