Developer pleads to illegal campaign contributions
By Randall Chase, Associated Press

A prominent Dover developer has pleaded guilty to making illegal campaign contributions to Gov. Markell in 2008.

A Kent County judge immediately sentenced Michael Zimmerman to probation on Tuesday as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Zimmerman pleaded guilty to making the contributions to Markell during the 2008 governor's race without divulging their true source. He was ordered to pay a fine of $21,600 and perform 50 hours of community service. He apologized and said he understood that what he did was wrong.

In a separate federal court case, Zimmerman is facing bank fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly diverting construction loans for unauthorized purposes.
