St. Mark's spikes way past Smyrna

St. Mark's Abbie Mirabella collected 19 kills and four digs as the Spartans rolled to a straight set victory over Smyrna Tuesday night.

Peyton Reno's kill put St. Mark's (2-0) ahead 12-3 in the opening set, and they cruised to a 25-10 victory after Mirabella slammed home the set point.

Smyrna (0-1) won the first two points of the second set, including a service winner by Kylie McCusker, and used a 5-0 run including a kill by Morgan Popovich to keep the set within 11-10.

St. Mark's then went on a 9-1 run, capped off by a Jenna Tomovich spike to catapult to a 25-16 win and a two-set lead.

The hosts would not trail again, scoring the first five points of the set, with the match ultimately ending on a Reno kill off the Eagles' defense.

Reno finished with 11 kills, while Claudia Seemans contributed 39 assists for the Spartans, who travel to Wilmington Friends on Thursday night. Smyrna travels to Milford on the same night.
