Parents attend meeting after ice arena co-owner's arrest

Concerned parents attended a meeting Tuesday night about the arrest of a New Jersey man who co-owns a Newark ice arena.

The meeting at Newark High School gave parents a chance to hear more about the arrest of Scott Bicking, a Mantua, NJ man who police say inappropriately touched two teenage boys this summer.

"We had representatives on hand from the Department of Justice, the attorney general's office, and we also had representatives from the Child Advocacy Center of Delaware to also speak with parents about this incident," said Lt. Mark Farrall, a Newark police spokesman.

Anne Annone of Wilmington says her kids attended a camp at the Pond Ice arena this summer and she hopes the rink's management will reach out to parents about the incident.

Management with The Pond spoke with WDEL on Tuesday regarding Bicking's arrest, and said he is not permitted and steps have been taken to ensure children's safety at the arena.

"It's just to make sure for the kids' sakes that another kid out there that went through this, whose parents have no idea that this is going on," Annone said.

Farrall says the investigation is ongoing and police have been in contact with additional families.

"We would encourage anybody with information that may have information regarding this investigation or any concerns that their child may have been in contact inappropriately with Mr. Bicking to contact to please contact us."
