Police: Man arrested after delivering heatbutt to referee
By Tom Lehman

New Castle County police have arrested a soccer player after allegedly head-butted a referee after the official issued a penalty during a game.

Police say 42-year-old Moises Velazquez grabbed the referee by the shoulders and head-butted him in the nose on the pitch at Rogers Manor Park Sunday night.

The official suffered a minor injury, but refused medical assistance.

The incident occurred, police say, after the referee called a penalty on on Velazquez's teammates for using profanity.

Velazquez has been charged with abusing a sports official/3rd degree assault and was released on $1,000 unsecured bond but ordered to have no contact with the victim.
