Del. woman pleads guilty in $800K tax fraud plot
By Associated Press

A Middletown woman has pleaded guilty to mail fraud and other offenses in a tax fraud plot that prosecutors say netted the conspirators more than $800,000 in fraudulent refunds.

Fifty-two-year old Beverly Newton entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Wilmington. She faces a maximum of 20 years in prison at sentencing Jan. 14.

According to court documents, Newton and others used stolen identities to file more than 180 false individual federal income tax returns. Prosecutors say Newton provided the names and social security numbers used in the plot and received more than $300,000 in refunds.
