3 New Castle officers injured while trying to break up fight

Three New Castle city police officers were injured while trying to break up a fight between two men.

Police were called to William Penn Square Thursday for a report of a fight. They found 37-year-old Londell Wiggins of New Castle assaulting another man on the ground.

While trying to stop the fight, the officers were slightly injured as they were taking Wiggins into custody. Wiggins, the man who was being assaulted, and the officers were all treated at Christiana Hospital's emergency room.

Wiggins is charged with assault and three counts of offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He's in Howard Young prison in lieu of bail.
