Man who rammed police vehicle arrested
By Mellany Armstrong

A Wilmington man is arrested on drug charges after ramming a police detective's vehicle.

State police say they tried to stop 31-year-old Michael Irwin in the parking lot of a business at the intersection of Kirkwood Highway and Milltown Road, but as they approached Irwin's car, they say he put it in reverse, hiting a detective's vehicle. Irwin then drove away. They say as he was driving, he threw a bag out of the window. That bag was later found to contain more than 25 grams of ecstasy.

Police finally stopped Irwin, but they say he fought with detectives as he was taken into custody. A search of Irwin's home turned up more than 30 grams of marijuana and more than 2 grams of ecstasy. Irwin was arrested Sept. 17.
