Wesley senior safety Dominique 'Duke' Herald says he's just happy to be back on the field this season for the 3-1 Wolverines.
Herald was the starting strong safety for Wesley before being suspended after the 2nd round playoff game in 2011 and missing all of the 2012 season.
"The year off, in those times, I felt kind of lost. I've always played football, but not playing football I kind of needed it to get my mind right to prepare for off-the-field issues. It was good to get back, and I have a lot in store in terms of big plays for our team."
Those big plays included getting in the way of a Birmingham-Southern option pitch last week and returning it for a touchdown, his second defensive score after an interception pick-6 last year at East Texas Baptist.
Wesley coach Mike Drass welcomed Herald back to his team this season, and says he is maturing into a leader on, and off, the field.
"He sat and made a commitment to this team, and himself to get his degree. I'm proud of the accomplishments he's made. He made a mistake, but he is doing things the right way now and we're real proud of him and the success he's having."
Herald is 6th on the team with 19 tackles and is 4th with 5 tackles for loss, including half of a sack.
Wesley celebrates homecoming Saturday at noon at Miller Stadium. Fans coming to the game are asked to bring canned food to support the Food Bank of Delaware. You can also hear the game on 1150AM WDEL, WDEL.com and the WDEL Smartphone App beginning at 11:30am.
