A New Castle man is arrested, after striking a female acquaintance with a vehicle.

County police say they responded to a reported vehicle collision at the intersection of State Street and Washington Avenue, within the Tuxedo Park neighborhood, around 2:20 a.m.

Police say Donald Smith and a female victim got into a physical argument before Smith operated the victim's vehicle with her in the car. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Police say Smith fled from the accident scene and left the injured victim in the car.

Police say a canine team was able to track down Smith in the Tuxedo Park neighborhood and immediately took him into custody.

Smith was charged with two counts vehicular assault, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, terroristic threatening, offensive touching and driving a vehicle under the influence.

He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after he failed to post $11,000 secured bail.

The female victim was taken to the hospital.
