Children injured in Newark school bus collision
By Mellany Armstrong

Six young children had to go to the hospital Monday morning after their school bus collided with a car in Newark.

Newark police say the bus driver missed a turn for the Newark Charter School just before 9 a.m. and tried to make a U-turn on Christina Parkway. As he tried to make the U-turn from the right lane, the bus turned into the path of a 2013 VW Passat.

Sixteen children were on the bus. Six of them, ages 5 to 9, were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Passat, a 51-year-old woman, was treated for neck and arm injuries.

The school bus driver was not injured, but he was cited for making an improper U-turn.
