Wilmington police say a 44-year-old Dover man was arrested Wednesday night after he twice tried to carjack a city woman's vehicle.

It happened around 10 p.m. on the 300 block of E. 3rd Street.

Police say a 48-year-old woman was getting into her car when Walter Gatson unsuccessfully tried to open the locked passenger side door.

The woman drove away but police say Gatson again tried to open the passenger door while her car stopped for a red light at the intersection of W. 4th and N. Walnut Streets.

The victim drove away again and called police, who took Gatson into custody on the 200 block of N. Walnut Street.

He's in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $2,500 secured bail.
