Passenger killed in Kent Co. van accident
By Mark Fowser, Delaware 105.9

A single-vehicle crash on Hazlettville Road in Kent County claims the life of a passenger.

State Police say the van went out of control on a curve just east of Nault Road at about 4:10 a.m. Monday morning, spun around, overturned several times and landed near a retention pond.

37-year-old Kimberly Proud of Camden-Wyoming died at Christiana Hospital.

The driver, 30-year-old Lindsay Stevens of Dover, was also flown to Christiana and was admitted in stable condition.

State Police say neither person was wearing a seat belt, and an investigation indicates that alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the fatal accident.

A portion of Hazlettville Road west of Dover was closed for about three hours because of the accident and investigation.
