UD football coach Dave Brock's weekly press conferenceDelaware coach Dave Brock says the 24-10 Delaware loss to William and Mary was disappointing, especially in light of the team's fast start...running back the opening kickiff 97 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
But Brock says they didn't capitalize on that momentum and, as a result, the Tribe defense whipped Delaware's offense.
Brock re-emphasized his philosophy that they have to be able to run the football well to be successful, and the William and Mary defense held the Blue Hens to minus 19 yards rushing, the second worst number in program history.
This week, Brock says its a critical game when the Richmond Spiders come to town. The Spiders feature the top passer in the league in Michael Strauss, who has thrown for more than 3,000 yards this year with 20 touchdowns.
Brock says while the Spiders are just 4-6, they have lost 5 games by a total of 20 points. And they can score points...they average better than 25 points per game.
The big question looming is who will start at quarterback against Richmond. Trent Hurley was cleared to play medically against William and Mary, but Brock says he didn't play his starter because he hadn't practiced. Whether he starts this week will depend on how much and how well he practices.
Brock noted that Delaware has two games left in the regular season and they are both meaningful...a goal at the start of the season. Not only is it the final home game for the season, its also the last home game for the seniors and their goal is to play their best game of the year.
Kickoff Saturday at Delaware Stadium is 12pm.
