Two people are under arrest after a traffic stop on Route 1 in Middletown uncovered a large amount of cocaine and heroin.

A state police trooper pulled over a car following the vehicle in front of it too closely.

He smelled marijuana coming from the car, which was a rental.

A search of the car revealed 170 grams of cocaine and 515 grams of heroin.

Arrested were the women in the car, 35-year-old Javona Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia and 40-year-old Sherita Nicks of New York City.

They face traffic and drug counts and are behind bars on $54,000 bail each.

Police put the street value of the drugs they had on them at a quarter million dollars.
