Police: 8 taken to hospital after school bus crash
By Associated Press

State Police say eight people were taken to a hospital after a school bus crash in Kent County.

Police say the school bus headed to Nellie Stoke Elementary School with 42 children crashed in Magnolia on Monday.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier says the bus stopped at a stop sign, then pulled in front of a car, which hit the bus and was dragged 50 feet until the bus stopped.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening and her two grandchildren were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Five children on the bus were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The school bus driver, 72-year-old James Bennett, was cited for failing to remain stopped at a stop sign.
