Wilmington police say a loaded assault rifle was discovered on a city street by a patrol officer late Saturday night.

It happened around 11:50 p.m. on the 200 block of E. 24th Street in the Price's Run neighborhood.

Police say an officer saw a group of teens acting suspiciously next to a parked pickup truck.

The teens fled after they saw the patrol car and police say the officer found an assault rifle with an attached, loaded magazine underneath the truck.

Officers searched the nearby blocks but couldn't find the teens.

They're described as being 15 to 17 years old and wearing all dark clothing.

Anyone with information can call the Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division at (302) 576-3620.
