VIDEO: UD coach Dave Brock previews VillanovaDelaware football coach Dave Brock says its important to have meaningful games in November, and he says the season finale against Villanova is just that.
Delaware takes on the Wildcats Saturday at PPL Park on a two game losing streak...one that has the Blue Hens on the verge of not making the FCS playoffs.
But Brock says Delaware's season-long body of work should still have the Blue Hens in position to go to the post-season with a win on Saturday.
He says a win over Towson, a top 10 team, and an 8-4 record, should they win Saturday, should be enough to get them in. In fact, Brock says in Delaware's history, whenever they've had at least 8 regular season wins, they have made the post-season every time.
That being said, Brock says Saturday's last-second loss to Richmond was disappointing. The Spiders drove 75 yards on 7 plays in the last 41 seconds, scoring with 4 seconds left, to down Delaware 46-43.
Brock says he had no problem with their effort...he says his players competed hard. But they just didn't do well in coverage, letting Richmond receivers get behind them several times, a couple those times for touchdowns.
This week's opponent, Villanova, is Delaware's number one rival. The Wildcats were the pre-season favorite in the CAA but they won't make it this year....a boatload of injuries has left them with a 5-5 record with one game remaining.
However, they remain extremely dangerous with sophomore quarterback John Robertson one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the country.
Robertson is second in the league in rushing with 1240 yards and 19 touchdowns and has also passed for 1705 yards and an additional 10 scores.
Brock says his staff will have to go back to the drawing board for this week's game. He says the rivalry aspect of it makes it even more exciting, but he also says this is his team's last chance to win a meaningful game in November.
