Sierer hopes to promote collaboration if elected mayor

If she wins next week's special election for mayor, Polly Sierer says she wants to bring various stakeholders in Newark to the same table.

Sierer she would focus on community relationship development as mayor.

"I think it's very important that we develop even a steering community or a focus group with the University of Delaware and the city, council, the fire department, the police department and other leaders in our community," Sierer says.

The 55-year-old resident of Farm House Road says she hasn't made up her mind yet about the proposed Data Center at UD's Science, Technology and Advanced Research Campus.

"We have to let people know we're open for business but we also have to be smart about it," she says. "I think with the data center project, I have an open mind. I do not think it is prudent and smart for anybody in an elected position to be making a decision at this point."

Sierer, who serves on the Newark Senior Center's board of directors and has also worked in sales and marketing, says she'd try to address traffic issues across the city by looking at specific problem areas.

"The timing on traffic lights, putting in turn lanes and perhaps taking a look at where pedestrians cross the street," she says.
