A Wilmington man prohibited from having a gun due to his criminal record, was caught with one early Sunday and is behind bars.

Police say 23 year old Marvin Dejesus-Santiago of Robinson Lane was riding a bicycle without a headlight on South Broom Street shortly before 1am.

As officers tried to stop him, the suspect took off on the bike and jumped off a few blocks later.

During the pursuit, he's accused of discarding a .38-caliber handgun.

Police say Dejesus-Santiago gave a false name to police.

He's in jail on $44,000 bail.
