Programs that prevent youth suicide and violence are the primary focus following several youth suicides in Kent and Sussex Counties in 2012.

Organizations like the West End Neighborhood House in Wilmington will benefit. Antoine Flowers is a Programs Coordinator.

"We're bringing a mental health coordinator in as well as certified teachers to help with after-school programming for these individuals within our community and just being able to give more information to the youth and the parents," says Flowers.

All of the programs that will get a piece of the two million dollars from the Delaware Kids Department will also have their staff trained in suicide prevention and bullying.

Governor Markell says the 12 programs up and down the state are diverse.

"They cover academics, exposure to nature, music, the arts, prevention programming, sports and athletics, healthy living, life skills, and self-esteem building," Markell says.
