Dole Food Company, the largest customer of the Port of Wilmington, will officially stay put after signing a 15-year lease Tuesday.

The Delaware Economic Development Office says Dole's lease includes 37.7 acres of terminal land and about 100,000 square feet of warehouse and office space.

Dole has been importing bananas, pineapples and other fruit and exporting forest products and general cargo at the Port of Wilmington since 1982.

Company ships make about 52 vessel calls in Wilmington each year.

The lease includes two extension periods, which could lead to Dole staying at the port until 2048.
