Wilmington cops detect pot odor, discover gun
By Michelle Provencher

Wilmington Police unearth a hidden handgun after smelling marijuana coming from a vehicle during a traffic stop Thursday night.

Two officers conducted a traffic stop at 10 p.m. near East Fourth and North Poplar streets, and police say the car smelled distinctly of pot.

Police also say drug paraphernalia was in plain view in the car.

Both the driver and his passenger were taken into custody.

A .22 caliber handgun was located in the glove compartment.

Investigators say the firearm belongs to the passenger, 18-year-old Ronald Maddrey, of Newark.

Maddrey is in Howard Young Correctional in lieu of $3,000 cash bail.
