Start your New Year's off right with a First State Hike
By Mellany Armstrong

Here's a way to get your New Year's resolution off on the right foot - take a hike at one of Delaware's state parks.

The Division of Parks and Recreation is holding free, guided hikes at eight state parks on New Year's Day. Spokesman Matthew Ritter says it's called 'First State Hikes.'

"These are a great day to start your New Year's, it's a great way to learn a little bit about your parks. We have so many sites and so many areas that people just don't realize that this is one opportunity to go and explore something that you may not have had a chance to before," he said.

This is the third year Delaware has participated in the national event. Last year, 22,000 people in all 50 states hiked nearly 44,000 miles in state parks across the country.
