Hodgson's Matt Peel scored 16 first half points as the Silver Eagles earned a 59-48 Blue Hen Conference victory over A.I. duPont Thursday night.
A.I. led 13-12 after the first quarter following a three-pointer by Freddie Heard, but could not find solutions for Peel in the first 16 minutes.
Using a variety of offensive moves in the post, Peel put A.I. into foul trouble, and earned three "and-1" situations. He also showed some passing acumen with a nice high-low pass to Ray Jones for a basket as the Silver Eagles outscored the Tigers 22-11 in the second quarter.
That lead would swell to 17 about 3 minutes into the third quarter, but then Hodgson's offense began to sputter with turnovers and missed free throws.
A.I. duPont slowly worked their way back into the game, scoring the last 7 points of the 3rd to get the game back to 45-35, and getting as close as 46-39 with 6:20 remaining in the game.
At that score, they missed an "and-1" free throw, and then after getting an offensive rebound and being fouled, 2 more freebies to keep themselves down 7.
Hodsgon then scored the next 5 points, including a nice pass from Peel to Bryan Daniels to help straight the game back to 12, and they hung on from there.
Free throws proved to be an issue for both teams, with Hodgson going just 18-for-40 from the charity stripe, while A.I. wasn't much better at 14-for-26.
Peel led Hodgson (6-2) with 19, with Ray Jones (13), and Jamal Hunt (10) also reaching double figures.
Heard bucketed 15 points for A.I. (3-5), who dropped their 4th straight game.
