A 51-year-old Milton man is dead after crashing into a utility pole Friday evening.

State police say Charles Moore Jr. was traveling northbound on Cedar Creek Road at a high rate of speed.

Moore lost control of his Buick LeSabre, causing its back end to hit the pole, which completely severed the rear of the car from its front. Although Moore and his wife Ruth wore seatbelts, they were both ejected from the car.

Charles was pronounced dead at the scene. Ruth Moore was flown to Christiana Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition.
