Newark Police report a University of Delaware student disarms a would-be robber Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the 28-year-old student had just left the ATM in Newark Shopping Center and was walking down East Main Street when he was approached by the unknown suspect.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded cash, but police say the student grabbed the gun and a struggle ensued.

Officers say once the student had control of the gun, the attacker fled empty handed.

The gun was later determined to be a BB gun.

The student had minor injuries on his hands but refused medical treatment.

The suspect is described as a white male with very short hair, a thin build, and between 5' 8" and 5' 10".

Anyone with information can call Newark Police or Crimestoppers.
