Sanford avenged a 2013 semifinal loss by defeating Caravel 53-37 in this year's semifinals of the Delaware Girls Basketball Tournament.
A year after losing 48-40, Sanford quickly fell behind the Buccaneers 4-0, but steadily used a fierce man-to-man defense that forced 19 Caravel turnovers to switch the game in their favor.
Leading 13-10 after the first quarter, the Warriors outscored the Bucs 13-2 in the second quarter, holding Caravel to just a pair of free throws. Meanwhile, Lewis scored 9 points in the frame, as part of a 19 point night, to help her team to a 26-12 halftime lead.
Caravel would get as close as 7 at 28-21 after Caroine Davis' conventional three-point play capped a 9-2 run, but Sanford had the lead back to 36-23 by the end of three, and controlled the game from that point.
Chrishyanah Alston led all scorers with 22 points, while Lewis' 19-point, 13-rebound double-double helped Sanford improve to 22-1 on the season. Next up for the Warriors is defending state champion St. Elizabeth Friday night at 7pm.
Morgan scored 12 points for Caravel, who ended their season at 18-5.
