VIDEO: WDEL's Amy Cherry reports.

Muddy water was gushing onto Linden Street, where there was a big gaping hole.

Crews worked all morning and all day to repair a water main break just outside Wilmington's Little Italy Section.

The break happened at 6:45 a.m. Thursday and was contained to the Linden and South Lincoln Street intersection--shutting down access to those streets. The roads didn't re-open until 6 p.m.

A foreman on the job tells WDEL the break did not affect residential water service.

The break was caused by the freezing cold temperatures and is one of several that have kept crews busy all winter long.

A smaller water main break at a construction at 16th and French Streets in Wilmington was also reported, but repairs were winding down as of 1:30 p.m.
