By Michelle Provencher

Vice President Biden heads to Chile.

The Veep and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, departed for Santiago on Sunday.

While there, the Bidens will attend the inauguration of Chile's president-elect, Michelle Bachelet.

Bachelet previously served as the first female president of Chile from 2006 to 2010.

Biden's trip is intended to solidify America's already close relationship with Chile.

Issues on the table for discussion with Bachelet include the Trans-Pacific Partnership, multilateral cooperation, the Visa Waiver Program, and the President's efforts to increase two-way student exchange in the region through the 100,000 Strong in the Americas initiative.

The Vice President is planning to meet with other leaders during his trip to Chile, including the presidents of Colombia, Peru and Mexico.

He is no longer traveling to the Dominican Republic as scheduled.
