A man is nearly robbed behind Joey's Liquors store in New Castle early Sunday morning.

State Police say the 27-year-old victim was en route to a convenience store on East Basin Road around 4:40 a.m. when two unknown suspects got out of a car and approached him.

The suspects allegedly demanded cash, and a physical struggle broke out after the victim refused to comply.

Troopers say one of the suspects whipped out a handgun and hit the victim with it, then they both took off empty handed.

The victim was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
