Earth Day, Ozone Season marked
Going "green" takes center stage at an event on Wilmington's Rodney Square.

Tips for living a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle marked the City of
Wilmington's annual Earth Day celebration, also the kickoff of the Air Quality
Partnership of Delaware's 2009 Ozone Season.
Deb Brown with the American Lung Association says ground-level ozone, or smog, has
serious health consequences, and to cut down on smog, you can drive a so-called "smart
car" or let someone else take the wheel by riding mass transit.
Jennifer Adkins with the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary says a major challenge
we face in protecting rivers, streams and other waterways is stormwater runoff, which is
difficult to deal with because it comes from so many sources, including yards and
streets.
Wednesday's event, co-hosted by Governor Markell and Wilmington Mayor Jim Baker,
featured exhibits by more than 36 environmental groups and plenty of activities for the
kids.
