Padua's Karlina Panella scored two goals and assisted on two others in a 5-2 victory over Caesar Rodney played in rainy conditions at Hockessin Soccer Club Monday afternoon.
The game started under just cloudy skies, and the defending state champions started out strong with three goals in the first 23 minutes of play.
Panella put the Pandas on top in the 6th minute when she forechecked the CR goaltender, forcing a turnover and earning an easy tap-in goal for the 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later the junior would send a cross to freshman Arryana Daniels who's blast from the top of the 18 deflected just over the goaltender's head and into the net to double the advantage. Panella would wrap up the first half, and non-downpour, scoring by half-volleying a one-touch shot into the far side of the net in the 23rd minute.
Heavy rain would dampen the Pandas' offense for the rest of the half, and seemed to give some life to the visitors.
Caesar Rodney's Alexa Faulmino tracked down an Aleya Cummmings' cross and found the back of the net in the 47th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Alexis Prillaman would get an opportunity for a penalty kick 3 minutes later, and her right-footed boot inside the right post brought the game to 3-2 with just under 30 minutes to play.
Padua regrouped however, and goals by Regan Lehman (61") and Meg Mallon (80") salted away the victory.
The Pandas (3-0) outshot Caesar Rodney (3-2) 15-9 in the game, and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
