MD man sought in house rental scam
By Frank Gerace Share

State Police are asking for your help in tracking down a Maryland man they say posed as a real estate investor and rented out a house in Smyrna without the owner's consent.

Police say Paul Barnes called the Dover man who owns the house last summer and said he'd like to buy the house and that he'd talked to a prospective tenant.

The owner said he'd be out of town, but that Barnes could show the house to the would-be renter.

The owner then learned Barnes had in fact rented the house to a Smyrna man, collected 54 hundred dollars from him, and had documents showing a company called JLR Group owned the house.

Barnes is charged with felony theft and forgery, but is nowhere to be found.

Anyone who knows where Barnes is can call Troop 3 or Crimestoppers.
