Concord's Evan Moser celebrated his 18th birthday with a complete game 5-hitter as the Raiders picked up a key conference victory with a 6-1 triumph over Charter of Wilmington Friday afternoon.
Moser ran into trouble in the 4th inning with the Raiders leading 2-1 when a pair of one-out singles and a walk loaded the bases for Drake Rivera. The pitcher won the battle, as he was able to force an easily turned double-play to 2nd base to keep the lead at one.
That would be Charter's last chance, as Moser retired the next, and final, nine batters in order to wrap up the victory. Moser struck out 4 on the affernoon.
Meanwhile Concord's offense helped make this easier for Moser, as Brandon McHugh connected on a 2-run triple in the 5th inning, and Shayne Linkhorst drove in 2 more with a single in the 6th to complete the scoring.
McHugh, Moser, and Max Carney each had two hits for Concord, which improved to 7-4 and picked up an important win after earlier losses to Middletown and Conrad.
Matt Oliver drove in the only run for Charter (6-4).
