By Frank Gerace

State police are investigating a car-versus-motorcycle crash that critically injured a Bear-area man Friday night.

Police say 56-year-old Roy Knightly was riding his motorcycle northbound on Governor Printz Boulevard around 9:10 p.m. when a car hit him as he was turning left onto Haines Avenue.

Knightly, who police say wasn't wearing a helmet, was thrown off the motorcycle and pinned under the car till passers-by jacked up the car and rescued him.

A state police helicopter flew Knightly to Christiana Hospital.

The crash closed Governor Printz Boulevard in both directions at the scene for about three hours.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the car.
