Miss Delaware was crowned on Thursday for the second time this month, as pageant organizers awarded the crown to the first runner-up after the original winner was disqualified because she was too old to compete.

Brittany Lewis, a 23-year-old Temple grad previously named Miss Wilmington, placed as the first runner up in this month's Miss Delaware pageant. She was crowned at Dover Downs Casino and Hotel by Alyssa Murray, who won the contest in 2012.

The award ceremony followed organizers' announcement that Amanda Longacre, who won the pageant on June 14, was too old. The scholarship organization's legal counsel said no comment could be offered on the incident because of "pending litigation."

Lewis, who called her original second place finish "extremely humbling," said she was ecstatic when organizers broke the news.

"(I was) running around the room, jumping up and down," she said.

She said going from runner-up to pageant queen didn't affect her experience in the contest.

"We all work extremely hard to represent the best that we possibly can when we step on that Miss Delaware stage," she said.

Lewis, who turns 24 on July 21, plans to use the platform to raise awareness about domestic violence. She said her sister was killed in a violent domestic incident in 2010.

By winning the contest, she receives scholarship funding and will compete in the Miss America contest later this year.
