A Hockessin man is charged with DUI after police say he backed his car over an elderly man in the parking lot of a Claymont convenience store, then left.

State Police say 22-year-old Zachery Mettler took off after he backed over 75-year-old Edward Morente the Third around noon Wednesday in the parking lot of the Wawa in the 26 hundred block of Philadelphia Pike.

Troopers tracked Mettler down by visiting area Saab dealers and looking up names of people who recently bought silver 4-door models like the one Mettler was driving.

Mettler's charged with vehicular assault and leaving the scene in addition to the DUI count, and is being held at the Howard Young Prison.

Morente's being treated at Christiana Hospital for injuries police are calling serious, but not life-threatening.
