Students who are part of the state's Adopt-A-Student program. (WDEL/file)Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services is asking you to remember students who are less fortunate by making a donation through the state's Adopt-A-Student program.
Program coordinator Shannon Smith says they need uniforms in addition to school supplies.
"Once they pay the regular bills, they don't have the money leftover for school supplies, and the children, if they don't have their uniforms can bve sent home, they can be prohibited from going to school if they don't have those uniforms," said Smith.
They're seeking gift cards for stores like Target, Walmart or a Visa or American Express card.
Smith is urging you to donate early since back-to-school shopping is already in full swing.
Last year more than 700 children in New Castle County were given uniforms and school supplies through the Adopt-A-Student program.
