Dover PD: Elderly victim misidentifies man who hit him with cane
By Kelli Steele

Dover police say a man wanted for allegedly beating an elderly man has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The victim told police he was walking to a locksmith on the 800 block of Forest Street last week when he realized he was being followed.

The victim told police Clarence Heath knocked him to the ground, beat him with a metal cane several times in the head and face, and left the scene.

Dover police now say Heath was not in the area and has been cleared in the assault.

Police say the victim misidentified Heath in the attack.
