AAA predicts turkey day travel increase
By Frank Gerace

Triple-A projects a slight increase in Thanksgiving weekend travel this year over last.

The auto club's 2009 Thanksgiving travel survey says about 38 and a half million Americans will travel 50 miles or farther from home this year, up about 1 and a half percent from last year.

2 point 3 million will travel by air, a decrease of nearly 7 percent, and the number traveling by train, bus or other means will be nearly 3 million, up by slightly more than 1 percent.

Triple-A Mid-Atlantic's Cathy Rossi says long-distance travel last Thanksgiving weekend was down significantly due to the crises in the financial and housing markets, and this year's expected increase reflects renewed consumer confidence.
