Heavy rains this week have prompted DNREC to issue advisories cautioning against swimming at a couple of beaches downstate.

DNREC says the rain may have elevated bacteria levels in the water at Broadkill and Slaughter beaches to the point where swimming there could be unsafe.

The agency says it'll re-sample the water at both beaches until bacteria levels again reach safe levels.
