Mellany Armstrong has more in this week's WDEL Delaware Story.
Great food and superheroes - perfect together. It's the theme of the 3rd annual Chefs Fight for Your Heart November 8th at the Harrington Raceway and Casino.
"We do this healthy cooking competition to have fun and to raise money for the American Heart Association."
Event director Anita Wheeler-Bezy says she and her husband, professional chef Ludovic Bezy, started the fundraiser after a family tragedy.
"He lost his brother at age 48 to a massive heart attack, who dropped dead suddenly on his birthday four years ago," she said.
The event has a theme and this year, it's local hometown heroes and superheroes, and you get to choose the heroes.
"Some of the heroes can be heart heroes, as in people who have overcome heart problems and are now living healthier lives, or they can be fire, ambulance, military, EMT and local citizens who have gone above and beyond," she said.
There will be 9 dishes you can taste and vote on.
"Three different chefs from three different restaurants, and they each do three dishes: an appetizer, a man dish and a dessert, and they all have to be healthy," she said.
And you can dress up if you like...
"All of the judges are going to be wearing superhero costumes, and we're trying to encourage the chefs to wear superhero costumes," she said.
Five heroes will be chosen to be honored at the dinner. Nominate a hero by September 15th and get tickets by clicking here.
