In his weekly message, Governor Jack Markell (D) focused on the new gun unit announced this week that he hopes will help Wilmington with the violent crime affecting the city.

"To support our law enforcement officers in this effort, we've partnered with Wilmington and New Castle County to establish a new State Police task force," Markell said.
"That team is dedicated to in-depth reviews of firearms transactions as well as developing a statewide strategy to better enforce our gun purchasing laws."

In the Delaware GOP's weekly message, House Minority Leader Danny Short, a Seaford Republican, says state and local governments need to cut through red tape when it comes to bringing more jobs to Delaware.

"We need action teams consisting of liaisons from the governor's office, and our environmental and transportation agencies, that are motivated and empowered to help businesses resolve issues preventing them from creating jobs," Short said.

"We also need to restrain regulators, requiring state agencies to justify the need for new rules, analyze the burdens they will impose, and explore creative alternatives."
