A Newark man was killed in a crash last night on Philadelphia Pike in North Wilmington.

Police say it happened about 7:20 p.m. Sunday night. A 34-year-old man was driving his Chevy Cavalier northbound on Philadelphia Pike approaching Sunset Drive north of Wilmington. For an unknown reason, the man's car crossed the center line and hit the front of a Nissan Altima driven by 33-year-old Omar Morris of Wilmington.

After the collision, Morris’ vehicle spun and came to rest at the corner of Philadelphia Pike and Sunset Drive. The Cavalier also spun, coming to rest against a guardrail.

The 34-year-old man, who was wearing a seatbelt, was trapped inside of his vehicle for some time until he could be extricated by responding EMS personnel. He was taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he later died. The victim’s name is being withheld until relatives can be told.

Morris, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was also taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in this crash.
