Redevelopment of Ruddertowne Ok'd
By Associated Press Bookmark and Share

A ruling by the Delaware Supreme Court has given the go-ahead on a plan to redevelop the landmark Ruddertowne commercial property in Dewey Beach.

On Friday, the court vacated lower court and town solicitor decisions that claimed the plan failed to meet zoning restrictions.

The court said the plan met zoning rules and any uncertainty in the law "must be resolved in favor of the landowner."

Dewey Beach Enterprises plans a $100 million mixed-use residential and commercial building on the property. The company says the project will create 1,500 jobs.

Opponents argue the plan would create a dense, unappealing building at the heart of the resort town. Former Mayor Dell Tush says she's disappointed, but respects the decision.
