The awards presentation took place at the Hotel du Pont. This year's honorees include
astronaut Buzz Aldrin, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, novelist Don DeLillo and actor
Kevin Spacey.
Aldrin is continuing his love of space travel by advocating for space tourism.
He believes the United States should devote funding and energy to putting people on
Mars to avoid the possibility of facing another Sputnik situation.
Actor Kevin Spacey has recently begun researching the role of lobbyist Jack Abramoff
for an upcoming film.
The actor believes it takes an open mind to accurately portray historical events and
characters on film.
Spacey says he's just begun researching the role, and that it will be the
responsibility of the director and other cast members to create a final product that
rings true.
At a press conference before the awards ceremony, author Don DeLillo and historian
Doris Kearns Goodwin discuss their craft in the internet age. View video of their
comments. Video Here
Past winners of the Common Wealth Awards include newsman Walter Cronkite, husband and
wife actors Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy and author Toni Morrison.
