Council preview on contractor compliance

As a packed house looked on, Wilmington City Council learned the ins and outs of business licensing and contractor compliance in Delaware.

Jim Jones, Director of the Delaware Department of Finance, says the ordinances before
Council will rectify past grievances with contractors in Delaware, but won't introduce
new taxes to the taxpayers.
The issue facing Council is one of contractors coming in from other states, hiring
out-of-state people, some of who are not legal citizens, and not paying taxes to the city
or Delaware at-large.
If passed, the Departments of Finance an Licenses would work together to make sure
contractors are updating their business licenses and complying with the updated
regulations.
Council will vote on the ordinances on November 19th.
