Disability screening bill takes effect next week
A law taking effect next week requires screening for developmental disabilities for kids in Delaware from infancy up to age 3.

House Bill 199, written by Denn, state Representative Terry Schooley and State
Senator Patty Blevins, requires screenings for cerebral palsy, mental retardation and
various other disorders for kids covered by private health insurance.
The bill was signed in August by Governor Markell, but gave insurance companies a
3-month grace period to prepare for the measure to take effect.
The grace period is up a week from Wednesday.
